They call it the “Language Arts”, but in reality our education system is extremely limiting in what they consider art of language. Traditional English classrooms discuss methods of writing, spanning from nonfiction to poetry, but rarely do they encompass the arts of language outside of writing. This is where multimodal literacy comes in- being literate in images, sounds, films, and speech. Perhaps soon even these categories will be limiting! There is language behind every sense if it is manipulated properly. Imagine what the world would be like with nations developing generations of people who know how to understand, criticize, and manipulate the entire Language Arts.
